Cule FC have won the Volta Regional Football Association Boys U-17 Inter-Club Championship after beating Homestars FC 5-4 on penalties in the final at the Ho Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The match finished 2-2 at full time, with the winners prevailing in the shootout to claim the Volta Region’s only qualification place for the national U-17 championship.
Homestars FC took the lead in the first half before Cule FC equalised to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Cule FC went ahead shortly after the restart to take the score to 2-1.
Homestars were reduced to 10 players after one of their players was shown a red card, but they responded with an equaliser to level the match at 2-2.
Neither side could find a winning goal before the end of regulation time, sending the final to penalties.
Cule FC converted enough of their spot-kicks to win 5-4 and secure the regional title.
They will now represent the Volta Region at the national U-17 championship in November, where they will meet nine other regional champions.
The national competition is part of the Ghana Football Association’s youth development programme and provides a platform for young players from across the country to compete and attract attention from talent scouts.
