Traditional leaders in Ohawu and Keta have called on footballers to maintain discipline and sportsmanship ahead of the Volta FA Middle League, which runs from 23 to 31 May 2026.
The appeal was made on Day 3 of the Volta FA Trophy Tour, when the league trophy visited Ohawu and Keta, to meet chiefs, supporters and players.
In Ohawu, Torgbui Gordor, divisional Chief of Ohawu, urged the Nukunu FC players to stay disciplined and promised to present a ram to the Team should it win the league.
He said the Ohawu community would provide full support to help the Club secure promotion to Division One.
In Keta, Mr Vincent Ahorlumega, representing the Divisional Chief of Dzelukope, encouraged Keta FC to fight hard and bring honour to the town.
The captains of both teams pledged to bring the trophy back to their communities.
An Executive Council member and Chairman of the Volta FA Finance Committee, Mr William Ackumey, also addressed the players, urging them to respect the rules of the game.
“Wherever there is no law, there is chaos. The law will catch up with us if we do what we are not supposed to do, and that has no place in football,” he said, adding, “Go and compete equally and fairly, and may the best team win.”
As part of the tour’s “Kick for the Planet” campaign, symbolic tree-planting exercises were held in both towns.
In Keta, the exercise was led by Presiding Member, Mensah Christopher, on behalf of the local authorities; Wisdom Bakah, Executive Council Member for the Volta FA, and the team captains.
In Ohawu, Torgbui Gordor represented the community, alongside Exco member, Mark Coffie Abebrese, and Promise Ahiagba of the Volta FA, while the Nukunu FC captain and supporters planted a seedling on behalf of the Club.
The trophy’s next and final stop will be in Dabala and Sogakofe, home of Yingor FC and Bebeto FC.
