Middle League: Maranatha, Nukunu secure crucial opening victories

Matchday one delivered excitement and drama as Maranatha FC and Nukunu FC recorded important victories to kick start their campaigns in style.

Maranatha FC announced their presence early in their clash against Bebeto FC when Alhassan Yakubu found the back of the net in just the 5th minute to hand his side the lead.

Bebeto FC responded strongly and fought their way back into the game through Dickson Kasaah, whose goal restored parity and reignited hopes for his side before halftime.

Maranatha FC later regained their advantage in unfortunate circumstances for Bebeto FC after goalkeeper Fianyadzi Israel failed to properly handle a long ball, resulting in a costly error that gifted Maranatha FC their second goal.

Despite late efforts from Bebeto FC to find another equalizer, Maranatha FC remained composed and held on to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

The result means Maranatha FC will now lock horns with Nkonya All Stars FC on Monday, while Bebeto FC will battle Nukunu FC in their next fixture.

In the other exciting fixture, Nukunu FC edged past a promising Nkonya FC side by a solitary goal in a closely contested encounter.

Nukunu FC had the perfect opportunity to take the lead in the first half after being awarded a penalty, but Augustine Ahiateku failed to convert from the spot as the opening half ended goalless.

The second half, however, saw Nukunu FC return with greater urgency and determination. Their persistence eventually paid off when Julius Atsu Addai found the breakthrough goal, calmly slotting home what proved to be the decisive strike of the game.

Nkonya FC responded positively and pushed for an equalizer, showing flashes of brilliance and promise throughout the encounter, but Nukunu FC remained disciplined at the back to seal a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

While Nukunu FC celebrated an important win, Nkonya FC earned admiration for their spirited display and promising performance despite the narrow defeat.
