Volta and Oti must be model for football development in Ghana – Volta FA Chairman

The Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association, Daniel Agbogah, says the dream of the Association is to make Volta and Oti a model for football development in the country.

He, therefore, called on stakeholders in the two regions to remain united and work towards that dream.

Speaking at the 24th Ordinary Congress  at the Ho Municipal Assembly Hall on Thursday, Mr Agbogah said disunity remained the biggest threat to progress.

“The most dangerous thing we can do to ourselves is disunity. I have not seen any meaningful development in disunity. A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

“We want to build a football ecosystem that will pull all of us along, not only a few.”

The Congress was held in line with the Ghana Football Association Statutes.

It was attended by the Coordinator of the Regional Football Associations, Daasebre Adu-Asare, a former Volta FA Chairman, Francis Dogbatse, Executive Council members, District FA chairmen, club chairmen and chief executive officers, and members of the media.

The Congress began with a minute’s silence in memory of football administrators, players, and coaches who died in the year under review.

They included Mumuni Mohammed Faraday, Chief Executive of Yadzo Oti Warriors, Mathew Dowoli Kadu, Chief Executive of Agbozume United, and Tawiah Hushe Lebanon, Secretary of Agbozume United.

Players and coaches of Young Desert FC, Bebeto FC and Aveyime Soccer Wonders were also remembered.

Mr Agbogah expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their support to the bereaved families.

Mr. Agbogah paid tribute to his predecessor, Mr Dogbatse, for laying a solid foundation for the Association.

“We are building on the foundation you laid for us and broadening the scope of the development of the game,” he said.

He led Congress to give a standing ovation to club owners for their continued investment in youth development despite economic challenges.

He outlined progress made in the past season, including drastic reduction in violence at match venues, improved branding and use of social media by Division Two clubs, increased progression of players from Volta/Oti to the Premier League, Division One League and abroad, influx of players from other regions, making the Division Two League very competitive, successful organisation of the Regional FA Cup for five consecutive seasons, presentation of trophies and medals to zonal champions, and the introduction of the Trophy Tour to take football closer to communities.

“Our Middle League is one of the most watched regional middle leagues across the country,” he said, adding that the region now has several clubs in the Division One League and had produced at least five players for the national U-15 and U-17 teams.

He, however, expressed concern over the low number of juvenile and Division Three clubs, describing it as the foundation that must be fixed.

The Chairman appealed to District FA chairmen to help reverse the trend within two seasons and urged Division Two clubs to register juvenile teams.

Mr. Agbogah announced two new incentive packages approved by the Executive Council.

“Starting from the 2026/27 season, clubs that finish in the top half of their respective zones will be rewarded with football equipment.”

“Also, effective from this Congress, all Division Two clubs that have been affiliated to the Association for 10 years or more will be honoured with a tactical board each for their loyalty and commitment.”

Mr. Daasebre Adu-Asare delivered a message on behalf of GFA President, Kurt Okraku.

He urged the Regional Football Association to build strong partnerships to increase the visibility of regional football activities.m
