In a bid to bring sports development closer to the people of the Volta Region, the newly appointed Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu has met the leadership of the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) to propose an annual football tournament on February 14, 2024.
The tournament would be named the Regional Ministers Cup, aimed at promoting the development of sports, foster love, and community engagement in the Region.
The Minister also proposed that the finals of the tournament take place at the Youth Resource Center in Adaklu, with the aim of drawing attention to the facility and encouraging its development.
The minister is confident that the tournament will be one of the key drivers of the region’s development, fostering growth and progress in the region.
He also mentioned that it would be expanded to include other sporting disciplines such as boxing, athletics, etc.
The Chairman of the VRFA, Daniel Agboagh was elated about the initiative thanked and welcomed the regional minister into office.
He pledged the association’s commitment to the tournament, he further promised to design the tournament and report back as early as possible
Mr. Agbogah added that the tournament could serve as a platform to welcome the minister into office.
Present at the meeting was the VRFA Secretary, Promise Ahiagba, Executive Council members, Foster Kudiabor, and Hamza Mutala as well as Miss Tilda Elinam Acorlor.
The tournament will not only celebrate the Minister’s entry into office but also attract investors to develop sports in the Volta Region.
The tournament is expected to be a fun-filled event that will promote love, unity, sportsmanship, and regional-community engagement.
With the Minister’s support, the Regional Football Association is poised to take the tournament to a high level in the region.
