The newly constituted Volta Regional Football Association Beach Soccer Committee held its maiden meeting over the weekend and unanimously resolved to promote the development of beach soccer as a crucial avenue for eco-tourism and sports tourism along the coastal belt of the region.
The meeting, which was held virtually, had all seven members of the committee participating in the discussions.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Dzidodo Ruben Adjahoe, congratulated members on their appointments and charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by working collectively to transform beach soccer into a major sporting hub for the region.
Mr. Adjahoe, while assessing the current state of beach soccer in the region, acknowledged that the newly constituted committee is more representative and relatable in terms of the personalities appointed, expressing optimism that the committee will make meaningful contributions towards the development of the sport.
After over two hours of deliberations, the committee adopted a strategic short-term development plan aimed at driving beach soccer activities along the Southern Volta coast through to the end of the year.
As part of the plans, the committee will undertake the following:
* Engage the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) on the development of beach soccer.
* Organize stakeholder engagements within coastal communities involving traditional, religious and political leaders, assembly members, opinion leaders, team owners and the youth.
* Begin preparations towards the Volta Beach Soccer League.
* Introduce beach soccer in schools.
* Regularize all beach soccer competitions within the region.
* Expand the sport across the Southern Volta coast, particularly within the Ketu South and Anloga areas.
The meeting also saw all committee members making valuable contributions, demonstrating strong commitment and support towards the progressive development of beach soccer in the Volta Region.
Committee members present at the meeting were Mr. Daniel Kovor, Mr. Ivan Akrobotu (Esq), Mr. Charles Epiphany Ativor, Mr. Gabriel Dzikunu, Mr. Mawuli Edward Agbetefe and Mr. Innocent Kumensah.
