The Volta Regional Football Association [VRFA] has honoured four distinguished individuals for their commitment to advancing football in the Volta Region.
All four were presented with a citation of honour during the half-time of the Middle League Final in front of a packed stadium in Ho.
The four individuals’ contributions span coaching, administration, refereeing, and private-sector support, reflecting on the roles of both public and private actors in grassroots football development.
The recipients of the honour are as follows:
Development Coach and Owner of HotSteel FC, Mr. Dickson Akortia.
He was honoured for his dedication to grassroots football development and youth empowerment.
As the founder of HotSteel FC, Mr. Akortia has nurtured young talent, instilled discipline, and strengthened football structures at the Division Two to the Division One levels, qualifying twice in the 2012/13 and 2014/15 footballing seasons respectively.



The citation noted his consistent work in creating pathways for young players to progress from the community level to higher competitions.
Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, received recognition for his leadership and support for football development in the Volta Region.
Through his office, Mr. Gunu has promoted talent development via the Inaugural Volta Regional Ministers Cup, using the competition as a tool for unity and regional progress.

The FA noted that his intervention has helped create a more enabling environment for football and other sporting activities in the region.
Businessman and football enthusiast, Mr. Francis Aba was honoured for his consistent support for the Volta Regional U-15 Boys and Girls and the U-19 Boys teams’.
Through resources, sponsorship, and encouragement, Mr. Aba has helped sustain the teams during camping. Assisting the Regional FA in creating opportunities for young players to thrive as they represent the region outside the region.

The citation described his involvement as critical to keeping the operation running.
Trailblazer in women’s football and officiating, Madam Innocentia Agbavitor.
A former referee and Volta FA Executive Council Member.
She was honoured for distinguished service to football locally and nationally.
As a former referee, GFA Assessor, and Match Commissioner, she has mentored match officials and upheld standards of officiating in the region.
In her role on the Executive Council, she oversees women’s football, Madam Agbavitor has championed the development and visibility of female players, referees, coaches, and administrators.



The citations were presented by the VRFA Patron, Joe Ayivor during the half-time break of the Middle League Final, between Yadzo Oti Warriors and Nukunu FC in front of players, officials, and fans.
The honours form part of ongoing efforts to recognize and inspire contributors to the game at the regional level, as the association continues to focus on talent development, infrastructure, and inclusivity.
The Middle League Final provided the perfect stage for the recognition, bringing together the region’s football community to celebrate both on-field competition and off-field contributions.
