The Volta Regional Football Association (RFA) and the The Beach Soccer Committee has announced its 2024/25 The Beach Soccer League will kick off in May, with affiliation fees waived for all participating teams in a bid to expand the sport’s reach.
The move, described as a “relief” for clubs grappling with financial pressures, aims to strengthen grassroots engagement in a region already renowned for its vibrant beach soccer culture.
Chairman of the Volta RFA Beach Soccer Committee, Dzidodo Adjahoe, said the fee waiver was designed to “reduce barriers” for teams.
“Clubs are burdened with daily player expenses and match-day logistics,” he said.
“By removing these costs, we hope to encourage more teams to join and focus on developing the sport,” he added.
The decision builds on previous efforts by the RFA to promote beach soccer, including free club affiliations introduced in recent years.
Mr. Adjahoe stressed the sport’s untapped economic potential, urging stakeholders to invest in infrastructure and talent development.
The league’s inaugural season in 2023 saw 10 teams from southern Volta’s coastline compete, with Agavedzi-based Forget Them BSC clinching the title.
The Beach Soccer Committee now aim to attract more clubs for the upcoming season, particularly from underserved coastal areas.
Beach Soccer has grown in popularity across Ghana, with the Volta Region positioning itself as a key hub.
Top clubs such as Sunset Sports Keta and Havedzi Mighty Warriors have previously emerged as champions nationally and internationally showcasing the area’s potential to nurture talent.
The fast-paced sport, played on sandy pitches, is seen as both a cultural staple and a driver of tourism.
The Volta FA says it is exploring additional support mechanisms, including partnerships with local businesses and sports agencies, to sustain the league’s growth.
“This is just the beginning we want to make beach soccer a cornerstone of community development here.” Mr. Adjahoe added.
The league’s fixtures and participating teams will be announced in the coming weeks.
