Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu opens second edition of Volta Inter-District Juvenile Championship

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, officially opened the second edition of the Volta FA Inter-District Juvenile Championship in Ho.

This championship aims to discover and develop football talent across the twenty-two football districts in the region.

Over 500 U-15 and U-17 young footballers from the Volta and Oti Regions are participating in this week-long tournament, which commenced on Monday, July 7, 2025 through to Sunday, July 13, 2025.

 

During the opening ceremony, Hon. Gunu encouraged the players to maintain discipline, focus on their training, and avoid the use of drugs, cautioning that substance abuse can ruin promising careers.

The minister, committed to the development of football in the region, stated that football serves as a unifying force for development and progress.

He also took the opportunity to interact with players and representatives from all participating districts.

Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA), Mr. Daniel Agbogah, encouraged players to be of good behavior while exhibiting their talents, which is the primary purpose of their participation in the tournament.

He added that this year’s tournament is an improved version of last year’s edition and mentioned that players’ selection will be fair and based on performance.

He also commended the various District FA leadership for organizing thier team to participate in the tournament.

Fifteen out of twenty-two districts are currently participating in the tournament together with twelve (12) Catch Them Young Referees under the GFA Catch Them Young Referees Policy.

In attendance was the Secretary of the Regional FA, Promise Michael Ahiagba, Regional Executive Council members, and all District FA chairmen.

The Inter-District Juvenile Championship is an annual tournament among District Football Associations in the Volta Region, providing a platform for players to showcase their skills and be considered for selection in regional championships and national teams.
