Luta Thunder Ladies Wins Volta Women’s Regional League

New entrants, Luta Thunder Ladies thrashed Ketu Ladies 12-0 on the final day of the Volta Women’s Division One Middle League to claim their first-ever Regional Women’s League title with a clean slate of 9 points.

Luta Thunder Ladies have been so impressive throughout the league, housed in the Central Zone they qualified for the Middle League at their first attempt beating teams like Dynamo Ladies, Ave Shining Ladies, and Nestino Ladies in the zone.

Their performance won the hearts of many who trooped to the WAFA park to enjoy a glimpse of the women’s game, defeating strong sides Agave Ladies and Anlo Ladies respectively.

Anlo who are the most decorated women’s football team in the region couldn’t maintain their form this season, they finished second with six points after defeating Agave Ladies 3-2, and Ketu Ladies 4-0 and lost 2-1 to Luta Thunders FC.

 

Agave Ladies on the other side won just one game against Ketu Ladies which ended 1-5. Ketu Ladies who are not new to the middle league terrain made their second appearance and finished with no points.

Luta Thunder Ladies will now represent the region at the upcoming Zonal Championship slated for June at the WAFA Park, with the hope of making it into the Women’s Premier League.

In a colorful ceremony that attracted the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo ESQ, Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Kobina Woyome, who donated a trophy and medals, and the Volta FA Chairman, Daniel Agbogah, Luta Thunder Ladies were crowned Women’s Football champion of the region.

Other dignitaries include Members of the GFA Competition Department led by Madam, Barbara Yankah, Volta FA Secretary, Promise Ahiagba, and other Executive Council Members of the Volta FA,

For the individual awards during the entire tournament, Avugbey Mawunyo and Bebe Kpozo of Anlo Ladies FC won the Best Goalkeeper and Most Valuable Player of the Tournament respectively.

Belinda Zowonu of Agave Ladies FC was adjudged the Most Promising Player.

The top Goal Scorer went to Abigail Awusiwaa of Luta Thunder FC she finished the tournament with 9 goals.

Most Active Women Committee Member went to Dr. Charles of Agave Ladies, who has tirelessly worked hard to put the organization of the tournament together.

Coach, Maapa Inkum of Luta Thunder FC has been adjudged the Best Coach of the tournament.
