Volta FA Donate Items to Basic Schools ahead of U15 Girls Juvenile League

The Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) on Tuesday 31st March, 2026 donated items to 8 Basic Schools selected to participate in the U-15 Girls Juvenile League.

At a brief but significant ceremony at the Ho Municipal Directorate of Ghana Education Service, essential sporting and welfare items were distributed to eight participating schools to support the smooth take-off of the initiative. Each team received a set of jerseys, markers, first aid kits, two sets of bibs, two footballs, and stockings. Additionally, a total of 27 cartons of sanitary pads were shared among the schools to promote hygiene and ensure the girls’ comfort throughout the competition.

Madam Cynthia Ayim, Deputy Director at the Ho Municipal GES directorate who represented the Municipal Director at the ceremony received the items on behalf of the schools, while sports coordinators and headteachers present were officially handed their allocations. In her remarks, madam Ayim emphasized the importance of maintaining the equipment and ensuring they are put to good use, noting the long-term benefits the programme will have on the development of young girls.

Speaking at the event, the VRFA Chairman Mr. Daniel Agbogah highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative in bridging the long-standing gap between male and female football development. He explained that, unlike boys who benefit from structured juvenile systems, girls often begin competitive football at the Division One level—typically meant for more mature players—thereby affecting their growth and progression in the sport.

He noted that the Ghana Football Association, in its wisdom, introduced the U-15 girls’ juvenile league to provide a more balanced and developmental pathway for young female footballers, similar to what exists for boys.

Participating teams include Kabore, Methodist, Mawuli, St Cecilia, Bankoe EP, Bankoe RC Girls, Fiave Global and Zion JHS Schools.

The maiden edition of the Volta FA U-15 Girls Juvenile League is scheduled to kick off on April 24 in Ho, marking a new chapter in grassroots football development for girls in the region.
