Volta FA completes 1,000-tree planting exercise in Ho

The Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) has completed its 1,000-tree planting exercise after planting the final 200 seedlings in Ho on Friday, 29 May 2026.

The last trees were planted along the Sokode-UHAS Road and at the Ho Teaching Hospital with the support from players of Nukunu Football Club, one of the finalist in this year’s Middle League.

One hundred seedlings were planted along the Sokode-UHAS Road that links to Mirage while the remaining 100, which included flowers, were planted at the Ho Teaching Hospital to beautify the facility.

The exercise, held under the theme “Kick for the Planet, Planting Goals, Planting Trees,” was led by Volta FA Chairman Daniel Agbogah in partnership with the Forestry Commission.

In attendance were members of the Volta FA Executive Council and members of the Ho Teaching Hospital Board.

The initiative was aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and strengthening community involvement within the region’s football ecosystem.

During the planting of flowers at the Ho Teaching Hospital, Mr. Agbogah said the association with its large number with its stakeholders wanted to contribute positively to climate action.

“We know the impact of climate change and we think that as a football association, we should also be able to contribute our quota. That is why we decided to plant trees,” he said.

“And we also want to present some to your environment here, and that is why we are here,” he added.

Chairman of the Governing Board of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Delanyo Dovlo welcomed the gesture and said the hospital had been exploring ways to beautify its compound.

“We have been discussing the beautification of the compound and thinking of ways to go about it. There are so many priorities, and sometimes it is difficult to know which one to start with. We are absolutely glad that you have taken this initiative to bring this here. We want to thank you for the gesture,” Dovlo said.

He added that the hospital was open to receiving more trees and plants in the future and noted the link between sports and health.

“Football is one big passion that holds all of us in this country. As much as I tried as a young man, I just couldn’t do anything, but I’m a good supporter. So we really appreciate the help and we look forward to more collaboration,” he said.

“Sports in general and exercise are fundamental to health. I hope that as part of your effort, you encourage young people and even older people to come and exercise with you, have fun through football, and also use that to improve their healthcare.” he added.
