Living The Passion; Enyonam Adzie shares her journey growing up as a coach

Football has become the most popular sport in the world, with passion and enthusiasm recognized globally. Millions of football fans flock to stadiums to watch their favorite teams play.

Although historically viewed as a men’s game, football has seen a remarkable rise in the participation of women, both as players and coaches.

Notable women, like Marguerite Aozasa, who became the first head coach to win the NCAA Division One Women’s Soccer Championship in 2022, and Emma Hayes, who won the FIFA’s Best Women’s Coach award in 2024 while coaching Chelsea and the USA women’s team, have made significant contributions to the sport.

Enyonam Adzie, a trained teacher from Ave-Afiadenyigba in the Akatsi North District, shares her journey as a female footballer.

Despite growing up in a male-dominated community, she remained confident and excelled in the sport.

Her passion for football gained the admiration of those around her during her prime.

When discussing her transition to coaching, Enyonam stressed the importance of developing young talents in the sport.

She shared, “I went into football and also became a coach because there are a lot of talents out there that need to be developed, and because of the passion I have for the game.”

Enyonam Adzie worked her way up to become the assistant coach of Nugata FC and stepped in as the head coach during the Sub-Middle League Campaign at Akatsi due to some issues with the former coach’s documentation.

As a Licensed D holder, she demonstrated her capabilities by leading Nugata FC to their first-ever qualification for the Volta FA Division Two Middle League.

Her achievement as the first female coach to qualify a male team for the Regional Middle League  will be recorded in history.

The former Sports Captain of Mawuko Girls Senior High School and E.P. College of Education, Amedzofe, is now expected to leave a lasting impact during the upcoming Regional Middle League, leading her team to success.
