Team Kpando Constituency has emerged champions of the maiden Volta Regional Minister’s Cup, defeating Team Tongu Constituency 10-9 in a dramatic penalty shootout at the Youth Resource Center(YRC).
The match ended 0-0 after regular time, with both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities.
The penalty shootout, which took 19 kicks ultimately decided the winner.
Team Kpando Constituency’s journey to the title included a 1-0 win over Team Kpetoe-Ziope/Adaklu in the group stage and a 2-0 victory over Team South Dayi in the semi-finals.
The final match, played under floodlights at the YRC, showcased exceptional footballing skills from both teams.
The winning team’s players swept two individual awards, Kpeti Zaphnat was named the best goalkeeper and Kunjam Samuel claimed the top goal scorer award with two goals.
Nortu Paul of Team Tongu Constituency received the best player award as a consolation prize.
The tournament’s champions were awarded a cash prize of GHS 3,000 along with the coveted trophy, while the runners-up received GHS 2,000.
Additionally, each participating team was granted GHS 500, New Jerseys, Footballs, Rice and other essentials, showcasing commitment to supporting local football development.
The Regional Minister’s Cup tournament aims to promote unity, sportsmanship, and talent development among the youth in the region, and this maiden edition was a resounding success.
