“Football is stronger than just kicking it” – Volta FA Chairman

Volta FA Chairman, Daniel Agbogah says football can be a powerful force for unity and social change, as the Regional FA continues its Trophy Tour in Dzemeni on Tuesday. May 19, 2026.

Speaking on Day 2 of the tour, Mr. Agbogah said the game’s influence extends far beyond results on the pitch.

“Football is stronger than just kicking it. It unites people. We can use football to cause positive change, one of which is addressing climate change. That’s why we are planting 100 trees in each community we visit,” he said.

Mr. Agbogah encouraged young people in the region to combine education with sport and take advantage of the opportunities football can create.

“We dream that young people playing football will gain from it,” he said.

He also wished Maranatha FC success in the ongoing Middle League competition.

This year’s tour is promoting environmental awareness through the FA’s “Kick for the Planet” campaign, organized in partnership with the Forestry Commission.

As part of the initiative, 1,000 trees are expected to be planted across the Volta Region.

Students from Tongor Senior High School, Dzemeni E.P. Primary School, and Dzemeni R.C. Primary School joined the Dzemeni Maranatha FC,  for the trophy tour event.

Community leaders and football supporters also gathered to welcome the ultimate League prize.

Traditional authorities in Dzemeni also used the occasion to encourage discipline and commitment among Maranatha FC players ahead of the Middle League, scheduled for May 23-31, 2026.

Speaking on behalf of Ohipene Moro Tettey, head of the Ga Adagbe Community in Dzemeni, Togbe Senyo Sewornu called on the club’s players to uphold respect, responsibility, and discipline.

He also appealed to the Volta Regional FA to support efforts to secure a standardized playing field for Dzemeni, noting that he had followed the club’s progress for many years and recognized the sacrifices made by the team.

A minute’s silence was observed in memory of former Maranatha FC players Gbedeze Victor and Asante Miracle, who died recently.

Togbe Sewornu, Mr. Daniel Agbogah, and owner of Maranatha FC, Goodnews Tordzi took part in the symbolic tree planting exercise in the Dzemeni community.

The Trophy Tour is expected to visit all eight districts and municipalities with clubs participating in the upcoming Middle League before the official launch in Ho on Friday.

The next stop for Day 2 of the tour will be Kpetoe, home of Diamond FC.
