West African Football Academy SC (WAFA SC) etched their name in history on Sunday, clinching the 2025 Volta Regional Division Two League title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kpetoe Diamond FC at the Youth Resource Center.
Sudais Yakubu’s decisive second-half strike proved the difference, securing promotion to the national Division One League.
The highly anticipated final lived up to its billing, delivering drama and crucial goals.
WAFA SC drew first blood just before halftime. Hallo Issa broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, giving the academy faithful hopes heading into the break.
However, Kpetoe Diamond FC responded instantly. In the first minute of added time, 45+1, Tamakloe Oscar silenced the WAFA supporters with a well-taken equalizer, ensuring the teams went into halftime locked at 1-1 and setting up a tense second half.
A pivotal moment arrived early in the second half, WAFA SC reclaimed the lead just eight minutes after the recess, Sudais Yakubu emerged as the hero, firing home what would ultimately be the winning goal in the 57th minute.
Despite Kpetoe Diamond FC’s efforts to find another equalizer, WAFA SC’s defense held firm.
The academy side managed the remainder of the game effectively, protecting their slender lead until the final whistle confirmed their triumph.
WAFA SC are now champions of the 2025 Volta Region Division Two Middle League.
Beyond securing regional glory, WAFA SC has earned promotion back to the 2025/26 Access Bank Division One League.
Their dominant run began in the preliminary stage with a perfect record 18 wins from 18 games secured them qualification to the Sub-Middle League.
There, they continued their relentless form, winning all three matches to advance to the Regional Middle League finals.
In the decisive final stage, WAFA clinched the title with three wins and a single draw, a truly historic and remarkable unbeaten season.
