Sunset FC have been fined 1,000 Ghana cedis after their officials attacked a referee in the Match Week Eight (8) fixture of the ongoing Division Two League.
The incident occurred on 25 January 2026 at Sir Noble Park during the match between Sunset FC and Golden Stars FC.
According to match officials’ reports, the game was abandoned after two Sunset FC officials, Philip Kwaku Dordzinu and Melike Dzado physically confronted the centre referee following a disputed decision.
The Regional FA’s Disciplinary Committee charged the club on 17 February with breaching Article 16(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019) and Article 34(1)(b) of the GFA Regional Football Associations Leagues Regulations, citing misconduct and unsporting behaviour.
Sunset FC pleaded guilty to all charges.
In its ruling, the Committee said the conduct of the club’s officials undermined the integrity of the competition and negatively affected the image of the Division Two League and Ghana football.
The club has been ordered to pay a fine of GHC 1,000 within 14 days, with further sanctions to apply if it fails to comply.
Philip Dordzinu and Melike Dzado have both been formally warned and cautioned to maintain good behaviour in future matches, with the Committee indicating that more severe punishment will follow any repeat offence.
A temporary ban that had required Sunset FC to play their home matches away from their usual ground has been lifted following the decision.
