Northern Sector A are champions of the Volta Cup 2026 after edging Southern Sector B A 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the final at the Ho Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Northern Sector A announced their intentions early, opening with a 2-0 win over Northern Sector B in Match One.
They then produced the result of the tournament in the semi-finals, shutting out a strong Central Sector A side 2-0 to book their place in the final.
Southern Sector B A took a different route to the final. They squeezed past Southern Sector B 1-0 in Match One before stunning Southern Sector A 2-0 in Semi-Final 2 to set up a clash with the northern giants.
The final itself was tightly contested. Both sides cancelled each other out in regulation time, with the game ending 1-1. It all came down to penalties, where Northern Sector A held their nerve to win 5-4 and lift the trophy.
The tournament also saw dominant group stage displays Central Sector A thumped Central Sector B 3-0, and Southern Sector A beat Southern Sector B 2-0.
Despite impressive wins earlier, both Central Sector A and Southern Sector A bowed out in the semi-finals.
The Volta Cup 2026 was organized in partnership with the Volta Regional Football Association, the Office of the Regional Minister, and Melost Sports Agency.
The tournament will continue to serve as a key platform for unearthing talent across the region.
Scouts and technical staff of Volta FA were present to select players for the Volta Regional U-19 team that will represent the region at the upcoming Elite U-19 Championship slated for August 24 to September 4, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. Outstanding players will then advance to trials in Portugal.
